Son of Zoustar a narrow second in Gr. 1
Sire sensation Zoustar - who will stand the 2019 Northern Hemisphere breeding season at Tweenhills - added more Gr. 1 form to his stud record when Zousain was just pipped in the Golden Rose Stakes at Rosehill.
Zousain (pictured winning as a two-year-old) has won two of his eight starts and was fourth in the Gr. 2 Run To The Rose over 1200m at Rosehill on his first outing as a three-year-old earlier in September. He stepped up on that performance in the Golden Rose when caught in the shadow of the post by stablemate The Autumn Sun.
Zousain had looked all over the winner but his stable-companion came away from him, down the centre of the track, not giving Zousain a chance to respond.
The Golden Rose was over 1400m and Zousain should be suited by return to sprinting for his next assignment, the Gr. 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington on November 3, Victoria Derby Day.
Zousain is certainly bred for the job as the Coolmore was won by his great grand-sire Encosta de Lago, grand-sire Northern Meteor and sire Zoustar.
In other Tweenhills news, Havana Gold sired a treble on Monday 24 September, including two two-year-old winners, one of them being the Qatar Racing-owned Gold Arrow who was following up a previous success.
