Sydney Double for Zoustar

Australia's leading first-season sire Zoustar registered a double on Wednesday courtesy of Lean Mean Machine and Madam Rouge, taking the stallion's individual winners to four.

Both winners were saddled by Chris Waller, who trained Zoustar (pictured) himself.

They came over 1000m at Warwick Farm, with Lean Mean Machine making an impressive debut in the opening race. Lean Mean Machine had also won his two previous barrier trials in February and early-March, and he looks yet another exciting prospect for Zoustar.

Waller eulogised about Lean Mean Machine: "He's an impressive individual when you see him in the parade, a real classic style of colt."

Lean Mean Machine was a $250,000 Magic Millions Yearling purchase from the Glenlogan Park draft for Aquis, Blue Sky Bloodstock/Raffles Racin, and he carries the Raffles colours.

He is the second winner for juvenile Stakes winner She's Meaner, who died in 2016.

Zoustar's other winner, the filly Madam Rouge, was returning from a break after finishing fifth at Rosehill on her debut in early-November.

She had won her second barrier trial earlier this month, though, and got off the mark under Rules by a length and a quarter.

Waller said: "Our riders identified her as a nice filly even before Christmas, so it's good to see her putting up her hand now."

Madam Rouge was a $310,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Widden Stud draft for Waller Racing/Mulcaster Bloodstock, and she runs for a syndicate that also includes Raffles Racing.

She is the first winner for Stakes-winning Al Maher mare Cabernet, a daughter of Stakes winner Golden Weekend.

Zoustar has 13 entries for the 2018 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale from 9-11 April.
