Top-class winners keep coming for Zoustar
Zoustar had another stellar international weekend as a stallion courtesy of four winning daughters, including a pair of superstars in Australia.
Zoustar’s 4yo daughter Zougotcha took her prize money earnings to AU$2,455,000 when justifying favouritism in the Gr.1 Queen of The Turf Stakes over 1600m at Royal Randwick.
Zougotcha added to an illustrious CV that already included wins in the Gr.1 Coolmore Classic, Gr.1 Darley Flight Stakes, Gr.2 Millie Fox Stakes, Gr.2 Phar Lap Stakes, Gr.2 Tea Rose Stakes and Gr.2 Silver Shadow Stakes.
Two and a half hours earlier on the card, another top-class daughter of Zoustar, 3yo Joliestar, followed up her win in the Gr.1 Schweppes Thousand Guineas by taking the Gr.2 Arrowfield 3yo Sprint over 1200m.
Both Zougotcha and Joliestar are trained by Zoustar’s own trainer Chris Waller, who said of Zougotcha:
“Things just didn’t go right in the spring.
“We didn’t panic. The owners were great, they just backed me to say ‘let’s give her a spell’. We gave her a proper break and she’s won three from three this preparation.
“She’s a tough mare.”
Joliestar is owned by our friends Brendan and Jo Lindsay of Cambridge Stud and we wish all connections continued success.
There were also weekend winners for Zoustar in Britain, courtesy of impressive debut scorer Sweet Carolina and fellow maiden winner Pentacle.
Sweet Carolina proved totally worth the wait when scoring easily at the first time of asking over 5f at Wolverhampton. She’s out of Makfi mare Carolinae, who was a Listed winner for Sweet Carolina’s trainer Charlie Fellowes.
Sweet Carolina carries the colours of Billy and Terry Mathis and is also owned by our own David Redvers, Alex and Ed Frost, and her trainer.
