Dubawi - Molly Malone colt sparks fireworks at Book 1

10 Oct 2024

Tweenhills-bred colt makes 1.5m at Book 1

"I really think if we've ever bred a horse that might win the Derby, this is him.”

That was what Tweenhills owner and managing director David Redvers had told Racing Post Bloodstock’s Martin Stevens in a recent interview about the yearling colt by Dubawi out of Gr.1 winner Molly Malone. The stunning colt was born, raised and grazed at Tweenhills, where his dam resides.

On Wednesday evening that colt made 1.5m guineas when sold at the Tattersalls Book 1 Yearling Sale in Newmarket. Consigned by Baroda Stud, the son of Molly Malone was fought over between some of the best judges in the game before being knocked down to Godolphin.

Baroda’s David Cox told the press: “Fair play to Tweenhills for using us to consign him as he’s a lovely horse. Trade has been very strong and we’ve had two millionaires this week, which is great.”

Molly Malone won the Gr.1 Prix du Cadran in 2012 before her purchase for €600,000 by David Redvers on behalf of Qatar Bloodstock in 2017. She had already produced Shamardal filly Morgan Le Faye, who won 3 Stakes races for Godolphin including the Gr.2 Prix Corrida, and went onto produce Frankel filly Emotion, who won the Listed Chalice Stakes in 2022 for Qatar Racing before her sad passing.

Molly Malone’s 3yo gelding by Dubawi, Bradshaw, makes his debut for Qatar Racing and David Menuisier in France on Friday.

Selling horses for such values are amazing and special moments, and only made possible by a lot of hard behind the scenes, so well done to Yearling Manager Scott Marshall and his team at Tweenhills – we are incredibly proud!
