Winning double for Havana Gold
Havana Gold enjoyed a winning double today with Our Man In Havana landing the AlufoldDirect.co.uk Nursery Handicap at Haydock and Sallab scoring in the British Stallion Studs EBF Novice Median Auction Stakes at Epsom.
This leading first season sire is now the sire of 11 individual winners, including Stakes winner Havana Grey and Gr.2 Coventry Stakes second Headway.
In the competitive 6f Nursery at Haydock Our Man In Havana showed a good attitude to get off the mark for trainer Tom Dascombe and owners John Abbey and Mike Nolan.
Jockey Richard Kingscote said: "It is the first time Our Man In Havana has got in the position to go and win and he just had a wander in front. But you can forgive him that and the race worked out beautifully."
Later in the day it was Sallab's turn to score for his sire in the last strides of the 7f Novice Stakes at Epsom on his second outing for trainer Richard Hannon and owner Al Shaqab Racing.
Bred by Athassel House Stud, this 200,000gns yearling colt is well bred being out of Waveband (Exceed And Excel), a mare Tweenhills' manager David Redvers knows well as he owned her when she won the Listed Cleves Stakes at Lingfield. She is also an own sister to Gr.3 Cornwallis Stakes and Gr.3 Molecomb winner Bungle Inthejungle, and a half-sister to Gr.1 Golden Shaheen Stakes winner Muarrab.
Our Man In Havana was bred by Alvediston Stud & Partners and is out of the Acclamation mare Auntie Kathryn, a half-sister to Stakes winner Royal Intrigue from the family of dual Gr.1 winning sprinter Cherokee Rose.
