Zou fillies star on Day 1 of Gold Coast Yearling Sale

Day 1 of the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale saw Zoustar fillies fill the top spot and joint-second spot when selling for AU$ 950,000 and AU$ 900,000.

The opening day’s sales topper was a Zoustar filly out of Karuta Queen (by Not A Single Doubt) who was bought from Strawberry Hill Stud by Moody Racing Pty Ltd.

Karuta Queen won the Gr.3 Red Anchor Stakes and Listed Heritage Stakes for trainer Neville Layt before moving to Peter Moody for her final five starts.

Moody said: “She was a lovely filly. I had a little bit of exposure to mum, I trained her at the backend of her career, and I’ve seen a lot of her foals and they’ve made significantly more [than this filly] some of them.

“This was just a magnificent filly, she’s a queen, my horse of the sale and I’m very pleased to be taking her home.

“She’s a big, scopey filly so I wouldn’t say she’s going to be really early but she’s obviously strong, powerful and well put together – she’s just a bloody nice filly all round!”

Zoustar’s other high-ranking filly was out of Fastnet Rock mare Gold And Diamonds. Sold an account of Yulong, she was purchased by Ciaron Maher Bloodstock. She is a half-sister to the promising sprinter Authentic Jewel, who has won four of her nine races.

Other Zoustars sold on Day 1 for AU$500,000, AU$425,000, AU$300,000, AU$280,000 etc.
