Zoustar and Charm show big profit at Magic Millions

Zoustar’s superb results at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Book One Yearling Sale were highlighted by the fact his 40 sold lots averaged $320,375 – which is a brilliant 7.3 x his stud fee when this latest crop of yearlings were conceived ($44,000).

A whopping 17 of Zoustar's offerings sold for $300,000 or more, including colts for $1,075,000 (out of a mare by Al Maher), $900,000 (out of a mare by Freud), $750,000 (out of a mare by Denman) and $700,000 (out of a mare by Black Minnaloushe). Freud and Black Minnalouse are sons of Storm Cat.

Charm Spirit’s figures were even more impressive – admittedly from only 3 sold lots (only 3 offered) – as his progeny averaged $236,667, an incredible 10.5 x his stud fee at the time ($22,000).

Like the $900,000 Zoustar colt, Charm Spirit's highest-priced yearling at the sale was consigned by Widden Stud. She is out of a mare by Fastnet Rock and made $280,000. Charm Spirit's other two offerings were out of mares by Encosta de Lago (paternal grandsire of Zoustar) and Fast 'n' Famous (by Redoute's Choice, Zoustar's damsire).
