Fifth Stakes win for Zoustar filly Sunlight

One of Zoustar’s flagship performers from his outstanding first crop, Sunlight, registered a quintet of Stakes wins with success last Saturday.

The lightning-quick Sunlight took her career record to 7 wins from 10 starts when easily accounting for her fellow three-year-old fillies in the Gr. 3 Thoroughbred Club Stakes over 1200m at Caulfield.

It was a trademark pillar-to-post performance from Sunlight under Luke Currie, beating Humma Humma by a length and a quarter. Sunlight’s total prize money earnings now stand at over $2.3million.

Sunlight is trained by Tony McEvoy and owned by a syndicate that includes Qatar Bloodstock Ltd.

Qatar Bloodstock also shares ownership of Zoustar, and the hugely exciting stallion will ship from Australia to Gloucestershire this winter, ready to commence stallion duties at Tweenhills in 2019.

Sunlight is now set to head for the Gr. 1 Manikato Stakes at Moonee Valley, where she will face older horses. Another big run there would lead nicely to the Gr. 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington.

Sunlight’s official debut came this time last year in the Listed Maribyrnong Trial Stakes – Melbourne’s first two-year-old race of the season – and her trainer introduced another very promising Zoustar in this year’s renewal, with Sun City carrying the Qatar Racing silks into second.
