Zoutori wins another Gr.2 for Zoustar
Zoustar's son Zoutori added a third Gr.2 success to his CV when winning the Gilgai Stakes over 1200m at Flemington.
Five-year-old Zoutori had won his second Gr.2 Bobbie Lewis Stakes over the same C&D on his previous start and lined up as joint second-favourite for the 9-runner Gilgai.
The Matthew Ellerton and Simon Zahra-trained gelding travelled smoothly in midfield before getting to the front with 100m to run under Jamie Kah. He hung on from Dollar For Dollar and Kemalpasa.
Ellerton said: "He wasn’t well off at the weights against those better horses, although I suppose now we have to call him one of those better horses!”
Zoutori's record now stands at seven wins and six placings from 23 starts with prize money heading towards $900,000.
It was the second year in a row that the Gilgai Stakes had been won by a Zoustar sprinter was Sunlight took the race last year.
Zoustar stood his second Northern Hemisphere breeding season at Tweenhills in 2020.
