Exciting double for Roaring Lion

Late Tweenhills stallion Roaring Lion was responsible for a double on Wednesday when Roaring Gallagher made a winning debut and, just over an hour later, Dubai Mile impressively won under a penalty…

Roaring Gallagher is out of Dansili mare New Desire, a half-sister to 2m winner Winterlude, and the 2yo showed plenty of stamina to make all over 1m at Bellewstown for Declan McDonagh and Joseph O’Brien.

The grey son of Roaring Lion is entered in the Gr.2 Beresford Stakes at the Curragh on Sep 24. He was born in France having been bred by E A R L Haras De L'Etre, Ecurie Du Graal, Langlais Bloodstock. He was picked up by his trainer and bloodstock agent Barry Lynch for just €50,000 as a yearling.

Dubai Mile was even more of a steal at €20,000 as a yearling when bought by Johnston Racing. Trained by Charlie and Mark Johnston for Ahmed Al Shaikh, Dubai Mile was an all-the-way winner at Windsor on Aug 7 and repeated the feat under a 7 lb penalty at Kempton.

Dubai Mile scored by 4 lengths at the Sunbury racecourse and, like Roaring Gallagher, holds a Gr.2 entry on Sep 24, though his in the Royal Lodge Stakes at Newmarket.

He was bred by Skymarc Farm out of Stakes-winning High Chaparral mare Beach Bunny, which makes him a half-brother to smart winner up to 7f Naadirr.

Both Roaring Gallagher and Dubai Mile look exciting prospects for the much-missed Roaring Lion.
