First Howden homebred winner

David and Fiona Howden celebrated their first homebred winner when Running Lion – by Roaring Lion and born and raised at Tweenhills – was a deeply impressive scorer in the 1m fillies’ novice at Lingfield last Saturday. It was also a first winner carrying their new green colours.

David Redvers bought mare Bella Nouf on behalf of David Howden for 325,000gns at the 2018 Tattersalls December Mare Sale carrying a Frankel foal.

The resulting filly was sold for 350,000gns at the 2019 Tattersalls December Foal Sale and became 2yo Gr.3 winner Majestic Glory.

David Howden and David Redvers sent Bella Nouf to Roaring Lion in his sole season covering at Tweenhills and she foaled a stunning filly on February 17, 2020.

Sent into training with John and Thady Gosden earlier this year and named Running Lion, she caught the eye when fourth over 7f on Newmarket’s July Course on her debut.

Just under a month later, Running Lion was sent off odds-on for the At The Races App Market Movers EBF Fillies’ Novice Stakes stepped up to 1m and switched to the all-weather at Lingfield. She never gave her backers a moment’s worry.

Always handy under Daniel Muscutt, the rangy grey pounced on the front runner at the 2f pole and showed her class from thereon, hitting the line with 6½ lengths to spare over her nearest pursuer.

Timeform have rated Running Lion 93p and the future looks very bright. Congratulations to The Howden Family and here’s to many more wins carrying their increasingly familiar emerald green, light green epaulets.
