Gr.1 success for Roaring Lion

Late Tweenhills stallion Roaring Lion sired a breakthrough Gr.1 winner on Saturday when Dubai Mile was victorious in the Gr.1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud.

Showcasing his sire's characteristic battling nature, the 2yo colt made all and saw off a strong challenge from the John and Thady Gosden trained Arrest and was momentarily headed in the final 100 yards before regaining the lead and winning by a head.

The win was the 2yo colt's 3rd success this season, with wins at Windsor and Kempton in August and a half-length second in last month's Gr.2 Royal Lodge Stakes at Newmarket for owner Ahmad Al Shaikh

Bred by Skymarc Farm, he is out of the Stakes winning High Chaparral mare Beach Bunny who has already produced Stakes winners Naadir and Beach Belle.

After the win, trainer Mark Johnston commented "That was his fifth race and he still looks a little bit green, but he's clearly got a tremendous attitude. When he's got something to aim at he keeps finding a bit more. It's sad that the sire's no longer with us and we've had a lot of success with his first crop."
