1055 Kameko x Potent Embrace

The record-breaking colt by Kameko at Tweenhills

16 Oct 2024

Tweenhills sell record-breaking son of Kameko for 1m

Tweenhills consigned a 1,000,000-guinea yearling when the colt by Kameko out of Potent Embrace – a full brother to this year’s Gr.1 winner New Century – was bought by Godolphin at the Tattersalls Book 2 Sale.

New Century gave our first-season sire Kameko a Gr.1 winner when successful in the Summer Stakes in Woodbine, and his full brother did his bit for the family when changing hands for 1,000,000gns on Wednesday.

The price was a record for a colt at the Tattersalls Book 2 Yearling Sale in Newmarket and it is the second-highest ever price given at the sale by just 50,000gns. Only seven colts sold for more at last week’s Book 1 Sale and they included another colt who was born and nurtured at Tweenhills in the son of Dubawi and Molly Malone.

The stunning Kameko – Potent Embrace colt was also part of a first draft of yearlings consigned by Tweenhills since 2012.

David Redvers told the press: "It is the old cliche, he was on everybody's list. I am sad to see him go, but thrilled that he has been bought by Godolphin. Anthony [Stroud] loved the horse from the first time he saw him. I am sad for Andrew [Balding] that he won't get to train him, he has done such an outstanding job with the brother [New Century].

"I am so pleased as this is the first year we are selling under our own name again and the Tweenhills team has done an absolutely stunning job – Ivo, Scott, Pieter, Tallulah and all of the them."

“He is actually more like his Dad [Kameko] than his brother – his brother is strong and looks a proper two-year-old, and is a machine. I can see this horse being a 'scopier' sort than New Century.

"But the thing that is common with all of them by the sire is they have this incredible 'head' – it is why New Century was able to go across to Canada, and come back and go across to the US. When he got back from Canada, he was so fresh having taken it all so well that he nearly bucked off Maddy who was riding him. Both colts have got that good temperament in their favour."

Kameko's average this week for four yearling sold is 273,000gns, which puts him behind only Sea The Stars by average at this year's October Book 2 Sale.

Godolphin effectively raced winning Street Cry mare Potent Embrace – owned by Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Al Maktoum and trained by Mark Johnston – so it’s come full circle for them to buy her second son by Kameko. We wish them the very best of luck.
